A SIGN OF THE TIMES

I work in a class of autistic students. Most of the kids have been together for several years. One boy has been in the class since fourth grade and is currently in 8th grade. He and another student started our program at the same time and have gone through the last several years together. We have been trying to use sign language with the boy, who is also non-verbal, but never knew if he was getting it or not. That is, until one day when he caught my eye, walked over to his female classmate, pointed at her newly blossoming bosom and, with a big grin, signed the word "BIG!"
